Arthroscopic Debridement

Debridement is used in a variety of orthopedic surgical procedures to remove dead (necrotic) tissue matter that has become unnecessary in a particular joint or other area. Surgeons can remove loose cartilage, fibrous tissues, scar tissue and even loose bodies, like bone chips, which can come loose during a fracture or other trauma. Debridement can be done using an arthroscope, which is minimally invasive as compared to a traditional surgery environment. The procedure promotes speed of healing by removing the potentially problematic dead tissue and exposing the good tissue that is left.

Arthroscopic debridement is one of the most common procedures performed in orthopedics after an injury or persistent symptoms. It is typically very successful in decreasing symptoms and allowing patients to return to their normal activities.
